CAUSES OF PYOGENIC GRANULOMA

The cause of pyogenic granulomas, which are also known as lobular capillary hemangiomas, is unknown.

However, pyogenic granulomas are more commonly seen in:

1. Acne patients who have been treated with isotretinoin.

2. Cancer patients using medications 5-fluorouracil

3. AIDS patients taking indinavir

SYMPTOMS OF PYOGENIC GRANULOMA

Symptoms include a swelling which arises suddenly, grows rapidly and bleeds easily.

 

TREATMENT FOR PYOGENIC GRANULOMA

The treatment of pyogenic granuloma is surgical excision though some lesions may spontaneously regress without treatment.

If the pyogenic granuloma is associated with the use of specific medication, then the medication should be changed.
