Dear Doctor
Please I went to a dermatologist who prescribed minoxidil 5 percent for hair loss. I am a female 28 years old. I had overall thinning, no bald patches or anything …
I used it for 2 months and it caused excessive hair in my face, back, upper thighs, ears so I went for laser hair removal for my face which led to a disaster. My face now is full of red bumps acne like. It has been 10 days and its not getting any better plz help me.
What to do to my face it was completely clear b4 the treatment and regarding the facial hair obviously I will not proceed with laser as this disaster was the result.
So I want to know if hair caused by minoxidil will fall on its own? Or what should I do?
Dear Patient
Minoxidil Side Effects

Unwanted facial and body hair
Minoxidil is used to treat hair loss but is can also cause unwanted hair growth on the face, arms and back. After the treatment with minoxidil has ended, this hair will stop growing but it may take several months for it to disappear.
Skin side effects of minoxidil
Other side effects on the skin include burning or stinging sensations at the application site, flushing of the skin, itching and a skin rash may also develop.
Cardiovascular side effects of minoxidil
Cardiovascular side effects include fast or irregular heartbeats, dizziness, fainting episodes, chest pain and difficulty breathing.
Systemic side effects of minoxidil
Other systemic side effects include rapid weight gain, bloating and swelling of the feet. Women and even men, may also develop breast tenderness. Some people may also develop numbness or tingling sensations of the hands, feet, and face.
Post Laser Acne Causes
The causes of acne breakouts after laser treatment include the following:
Dead skin cells
Skin debris or the dead skin cells left behind after the laser procedure can block the skin pores and cause acne breakouts.
Swollen skin
The skin can swell because of the laser procedure and this can contribute to blocking the skin pores.
Products applied to the skin
Products applied on the skin after procedures like laser resurfacing can also clog the skin pores and cause breakouts.
Post Laser Acne Treatment
The treatment of acne that breakouts after laser treatments begins with consulting the person who did the laser treatment so that they can advice you on how best to deal with it and take note in case you need to return for other treatments in the future.
If you have notified the person who did the laser treatment but you have not receieved satisfactory help, I suggest the following:fter you have notified with dealing with the factor that caused it. is treated just like any other acne. In your
Use an acne face wash twice a day
Use an acne face wash to wash your face in the morning and evening. Chose those which contain salicylic acid since it reduces inflammation and the clogging of pores by skin cells. For example you can use Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash.
Apply an acne treatment moisturizer at night
After cleansing, apply an oil-free moisturizer that contains salicylic acid for the same reason. For example you can use Clean and clear oil free moisturizer .
Post laser acne prevention
Acne can be prevented after laser procedures by using medications like the antibiotic Clindamycin and applying steroids on the skin to prevent swelling. In addition acne should be well controlled before doing any acne procedures like laser resurfacing.
Adopt an Acne-Free Lifestyle
Adopting an acne-free lifestyle can also help you control acne. You can do this by:
*Joining a smoking cessation program if you smoke cigarettes
*Cleaning your mobile phone with antiseptic wipes regularly
*Avoiding sugary foods like cakes and eating low glycemic index foods like whole grain bread. To learn more read How to Treat Acne at Home.
