Dear Doctor
At the start the condition was not worse and skin doctor had told that it was just due to cold weather. It has been almost 2 months but these 2 fingers are showing no improvement.
Presently applying Tinaderm solution. Don’t know how to get rid of this problem. My kid is 2 years 3 months, premature baby born 7 months. Pls help me out.
Dear Patient
This looks like infected scabies.
Tinaderm
Tinaderm is a medication which is used to treat fungal infections. Its generic name is Tolnaftate. Other brand names used for Tolnaftate include Tinaderm, Aftate, Fungi-Guard, Podactin, Ting and Tinactin.
Tinaderm will therefore not clear scabies which is caused by a mite.
Infected Scabies Treatment
The treatment of infected scabies in children is as follows:
Apply Permethrin Cream
5% Permethrin cream should be applied from the neck to the toes and washed off after 12 hours. The application is repeated after 7 days to ensure that all mites are killed.
Take Antihistamines
Antihistamines can be taken my mouth to control the itch. Examples include the non-sedating loratadine (Claritin) as well as the less sedating cetirizine (Zyrtec). The sedating diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can also be used to reduce the itch especially if it disturbs sleep.
Take Antibiotics
Antibiotics like Flucloxacillin should be taken for 1 week to clear the infection.
Treat the Entire Family
All persons living in the same house as the child should be treated even if they do not have symptoms.
Wash All Clothes
All the clothing, bed linen, towels and any other garments that come in close contact with the child’s body should be washed at a temperature of 122F or 50C (they can also be machine washed and dried using the hot cycle) on the day the medication is applied on the child. Items that cannot be washed should be placed in a plastic bag for at least 72 hours to kill the mites.
Clean The House Thoroughly
The house should be cleaned thoroughly by vacuuming the carpets and upholstery.
