Dear Doctor
Hi! I can’t explain really good my situation, but I put a picture, I hope u will understand. These zits started some while ago, started with one, and then they got more and more. If I’m pressing them, nothing comes out, maybe a little bit a blood.
Dear Patient
This looks like Genital Herpes.
Genital herpes is usually caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV-2) though HSV-1 also causes some cases.
Symptoms of genital herpes include blisters (fluid filled swellings) in the private areas. These usually break open and turn into painful erosions (small wounds). The wounds/sores develop scabs and heal over the course of a few weeks.
Genital Herpes Treatment
The treatment of genital herpes includes:
- Antivirals
Antivirals can be prescribed to shorten the duration of the outbreaks and make the symptoms resolve faster as well as prevent recurrences. These medications work best if they are taken before the blisters develop.
Examples include Acyclovir (Zovirax), Famciclovir (Famvir) and Valacyclovir (Valtrex).
Antiviral creams can also be applied to shorten the duration of the symptoms.
- Analgesics
Analgesics like acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and Naproxen (Aleve) can also be taken to reduce the pain.
Other supportive measures include washing the blisters and sores with warm salty water twice a day to help prevent spreading the virus to other parts of the body. You can make your own solution by dissolving 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 pint of water. The lesions can also be washed with an antiseptic soap and water.
