Ask A Skin Doctor: Under Eye Circles

Under Eye Circles

Dear Doctor

Dr PLEASE HELP ME !

I am 27 years old woman, I have been suffering from dark circles around my eye for sometimes recently it became worst adding puffins !!

I have been following a routine to reduce it: treat my allergy, sleep enough, drink enough water, reduce salt in my food, eat more fruits and vegetables   but so far nothing changes.

2 months ago I received a treatment with CO2 injections under eyes, it helped a little like 20% no more.

I need a solution to improve it and make it better.

I have nice skin I don’t wear make up most of the time, and I do have this very young look but with this problem

Recently I found about PRP injections for under eyes … does it help my case?

What are my options for treatment? Please give me your recommendations. Thank you in advance.

Under Eye Circles

Dear Patient

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy uses the patient’s own blood to produce plasma that has a high concentration of platelets and growth factors. This plasma is re-injected into the patient to reduce dark circles, hollow appearance and wrinkles around the eyes. PRP stimulates collagen production which tightens and firms the skin. It also lightens the dark circles. PRP therapy is therefore one option that you can try.

The other options that you can try to reduce the dark under eye circles and puffiness include:

Eye creams

Eye creams with vitamin E, vitamin K, retinol, CoEnzyme Q10 and green tea are useful for treating dark eye circles. Examples include Roth Power K Eye Rescue which contains vitamin K, vitamin C, green tea, kojic acid and CoEnzyme Q10.

Other creams used to treat dark eye circles include RevaleSkin eye replenishing cream, DCL Eye Refining Matrix, SkinCeuticals eye gel, Sebamed Q10 Lifting Eye Cream, Olay definity eye illuminator and Hylexin serious dark circles eye cream.

Sunscreens

Broad spectrum sunscreens that offer protection from UVA and UVB rays and that have a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 should be used every day. Large UV 400 sunglasses which cover the area should also be used when out in the sun.

Laser Therapy

Fractional ablative laser resurfacing is good for reducing brown pigmentation in the under eye area. Laser resurfacing also helps reduce the dark circles by increasing collagen production and improving the overall skin quality. For best results it is usually combined with other treatments.

Injectable fillers

Hyaluronic acid injectable fillers like Restylane are used to treat dark circles since they plump up the skin and decrease the hollow appearance under the eye by restoring volume loss.
