Dear Doctor
Hello, I’ve been wondering what would be the best way to get rid of my cluster of freckles that sit on my face?
Are their any good over the counter products I could try?
Are lasers any good? And if so how much does the laser procedure cost?
I’ve been meaning to get rid of them for years but just now I’m meaning to do it because they are getting darker and honey is not helping.
Dear Patient
Freckles At Home Treatment
Over the counter products that you can use to manage freckles include:
1. Alpha Hydrox Spot Light Targeted Skin Lightener which contains 10% Glycolic acid which is a mild chemical peel and 2% Hydroquinone which is a skin bleach.
2. Palmer’s Skin Success Fade Cream which contains vitamin C which is a skin brightener and the skin bleach 2% Hydroquinone.
All these should be used with a broad spectrum sunscreen with a SPF of 30.
Freckles Dermatologist Treatment
Treatment that you can receive from a dermatologist for freckles includes:
1. Laser resurfacing can be done to even out the pigmentation over a large area by removing the top layer of the skin. The price varies from one dermatologist to another. It can be done with a Q switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium arnet (QS Nd:yag) laser or a Fraxel Dual Laser which also improves the skin’s texture at the same time.
2. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials can also be used to reduce reddish and brownish freckles.
