CAUSES OF SOLAR URTICARIA
Solar urticaria is thought to be caused by an immune reaction that develops on exposure to sunlight or artificial UVA light.
SYMPTOMS OF SOLAR URTICARIA
Though symptoms of solar urticaria usually develop within minutes or soon after being exposed to sunlight, they can be delayed for several hours. These symptoms include:
1. Redness of the skin
2. Itchiness
3. Wheals
TREATMENT FOR SOLAR URTICARIA
The treatment for solar urticaria includes:
1. Taking antihistamines one hour before sun exposure.
2. Wearing photo-protective clothing like hats with wide brims, tops with long sleeves and trousers and avoiding the sun between 10 am and 4 pm.
3. Immuno-suppressant medications like prednisolone, ciclosporin and intravenous immunoglobulins for severe solar urticaria.
