penis folliculitis

Dear Patient

This condition is known as penis folliculitis. This term simply means that there is inflammation of the penis.

This penile inflammation is caused by infection of the hair follicles which are the holes from where the hair grows.

Your infection most probably began after you introduced bacteria when you popped the blood blisters.

Penis Folliculitis Symptoms

Penis folliculitis symptoms include the redness that you can see as well as the production of pus around the hair follicles. This infection is usually at the base of the penis.

Though you say yours is not painful, in some situations there may be pain especially if many hair follicles are infected.

Penis Folliculitis Treatment

I recommend the following treatment for penis folliculitis:

1.Washing the area with an antiseptic soap like  Chlorhexidine Hibiclens. You can also use a body wash that contains an antiseptic.

2. Applying an antibiotic cream like Bactroban ointment. Other topical antibiotics that can be applied to treat folliculitis include Fusidic acid (Fucidin) and Clindamycin (Cleocin T, Evoclin foam).

3. Consulting your nearest doctor to prescribe some antibiotics to take by mouth like Dicloxacillin (Dynapen) and Cephalosporins like Cephalexin (Keflex).

4. Not trying to remove the pus by cutting or popping the lesions at home.
