CAUSES OF PAPULAR PRURITIC ERUPTION
The cause of Papular Pruritic Eruption (PPE) is not known for certain.
Though not proven, some scholars think PPE might be triggered by:
1. Arthropod bites and an exaggerated immune response to their antigens
2. Medications
3. Direct HIV infection of the skin
4. An autoimmune reaction in the body
SYMPTOMS OF PAPULAR PRURITIC ERUPTION
Symptoms of Papular Pruritic Eruption (PPE) include a rash with many red or skin colored papules (pimples) which are less than 1cm in diameter.
In dark skinned persons, these pimples may be hyperpigmented or darker than the surrounding skin. These pimples are very itchy may be eroded due to the itch.
TREATMENT FOR PAPULAR PRURITIC ERUPTION
The treatment for Papular Pruritic Eruption (PPE) can be quite challenging and includes the use of:
1. Topical steroids like triamcinolone (Aristocort)
2. Topical emollients like emulsifying ointment
3. Oral antihistamines like hydroxyzine (Atarax) and chlorpheniramine (Piriton)

1. If the PPE is HIV related, take your HAART (Highly Active Anti-Retroviral Therapy) faithfully.
