syphilis secondary

Dear Patient

This is suggestive of moth eaten hair loss which is associated with secondary syphilis.

Therefore I suggest that you do the following tests:

1. Rapid plasma reagin (RPR)

2. Fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS)

Moth Eaten Hair Loss Treatment

If these tests are positive you will need to be treated with an injection of 2.4 million units of Penicillin G benzathine.

If you are allergic to penicillin, you can take doxycycline 100mg bid for 2 weeks or tetracycline 500mg qid for 2 weeks or ceftriaxone 1 g daily IM/IV for 8-10 days.

The hair loss will resolve around 3 months after treatment for syphilis.
