Causes of Dermatosis Papula Nigra

DPN usually starts in adolescence and the cause of dermatosis papula nigra is not really known as they are thought to arise due to development defects of the hair follicle. Genes are also thought to play a role since around 50% of person with them also have family members with the same condition.

 

Treatment of Dermatosis Papula Nigra

DPN are usually treated with:

1. Curettage and light electrodessication which is simply cutting and burning.

 

2. Cryotherapy which is freezing them liquid nitrogen.

 

3. Snip excision which is cutting them off after applying numbing cream like EMLA (topical lidocaine/prilocaine cream)

 

4. Lasers like the CO2 and Nd:YAG lasers are also used.
