Nodular Basal Cell Carcinoma

Dear Patient

You need to visit your nearest dermatologist as soon as possible so that they can evaluate this lesion on your face that is suspicious of a nodular basal cell carcinoma.

Nodular BCC Tests

Your dermatologist will most probably do a skin biopsy. In this procedure, the affected area is numbed with local anesthesia and a small piece of the skin is removed and taken for histological examination under the microscope in the laboratory.

Nodular BCC Treatment

If it is confirmed to be a BCC, the treatment may include Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

In this operation, the doctor numbs the area with local anesthesia and removes the tumor and some tissue around it. This specimen is examined under a microscope to check if the margins are tumor free. If they are not, the procedure is repeated until they are completely free of abnormal cells.

After total removal of the tumor, small wounds are left to heal by themselves and large ones are reconstructed using skin grafts and flaps to achieve cosmetically acceptable results.
