Ask A Skin Doctor: Deriva MS Acne Treatment

Acne Post Inflammatory Hyerpigmentation

Dear Doctor

I had so many pimple acne whiteheads and dark spots in my face. I have been using Deriva MS and Clinmskin for 15 days but its not working and my face is becoming dull and dark day by day so I’m very worried doctor. It has become very dull and dark. Plz do something.

Deriva MS

Dear Doctor

Deriva MS

Deriva MS is adapalene which is a retinoid or vitamin A derivative. It is used to treat mild to moderate acne because it reduces inflammation and prevents plugging of the skin pores. It also reduces sebum (oil) production and prevents the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. Is therefore an effective acne medication.

Clinmskin

Clinmskin contains the antibiotic Clindamycin which is used to treat mild to moderate acne because it has anti-inflammatory properties and it is also effective against Propionibacterium acnes which is the bacteria that is associated with acne. Clinmskin also contains nicotinamide which is said to reduce inflammation in an aloe-allantoin base. It is also an effective acne medication.

The point I am trying to make is that these medications are effective for treating acne but 15 days is not long enough. Acne medications need around 6 weeks before you can say that they are not working.

I therefore urge you to continue using these medications for at least one more month before you say they are not working.

In addition to this I would also advise you to:

Use an acne face wash in the morning and evening

Use an acne face wash like Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash  which contains salicylic acid to wash your face in the morning and evening before applying your acne medications.

Adopt an Acne-Free Lifestyle

Adopt an acne-free lifestyle by doing the following:

*Exercising regularly

*Joining a smoking cessation program if you smoke cigarettes

*Cleaning your mobile phone with antiseptic wipes regularly

*Eating low glycemic index foods like whole grain bread, spinach, and tomatoes. To learn more read How to Treat Acne at Home.

After the acne pimples have cleared we can then look into the treating the dark marks – the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation – since treating them while the acne is not under control will be a waste of effort as more will be getting formed.
