white spots on lips

Dear Doctor

There is a white pimple on lips what should i do it to remove it please answer me about my question.

canker sores

Dear Patient

The white spots on lips are canker sores or aphthous ulcers.

There is no cure for canker sores but they usually heal in around 2 weeks. Medications that are used to treat them include:

1. Analgesics like Benzocaine (Oragel) or Lidocaine spray can be used to relieve the pain. Choline salicylate gel (Bonjela) can also be used by persons who are older than 16 years.

2. Anti-inflammatories can be used to reduce the inflammation. Examples include Triamcinolone 0.1% in orabase (Kenalog in Orabase) which can be applied on dried ulcers 3 times a day.

3. Antibiotics are used if there is a secondary bacterial infection and the sores become red, crusted and begin discharging pus.

These measures should be combined with avoiding eating acidic foods like oranges, spicy and salty foods.
